Mighty Littles in the NICU

As a mom and neonatologist, I believe that all children are born mighty.  Babies are born full of heart, with a courage and tenacity that deserves respect. And babies, whether full-term or premature, are born with personality - a personality that declares itself over the first month of life and lasts forever.   MightyLittles is a site I created to talk about parenting, all of parenting.  However, as a neonatologist, I have a particular interest in telling and sharing stories from families who have lived through the uncertainties of parenting in the NICU. I have noticed that the information we give parents in the NICU, while valuable, may seem technical and impersonal; it is often set aside or discarded by overwhelmed, scared parents.  I am working to change that.

With MightyLittles, I want to collaborate with NICU families to share real stories of the NICU, through the eyes of parents.  I plan to write a book outlining the emotional journey through the NICU, from beginning to end. MightyLittles will also be sharing NICU stories of courage and hope on the website and ultimately by Podcast. By collecting and sharing a variety of stories, families going through a NICU stay can find relatable stories and hopefully feel less alone.  Through the MightyLittles platform,  I hope to give NICU families Courage, Compassion, Hope and Love to help support them during their NICU stay.

NICU families are expected to navigate the fear of the NICU, the grief that can come from having a sick baby and the absolute love they have for their infant simultaneously. It is an enormous ask. I believe MightyLittles will help bring past NICU families and stories together with current and future NICU families to provide Courage, Hope and Love.

For anyone interested in participating in this project, please reach out to me directly or take our NICU parent survey below to share your information.
