Episode 34: All About Dads.

Carl MacDoonald’s twins were born prematurely at 27 weeks gestation and spent nearly 3 months in the NICU. He joins me to discuss the NICU experience from the perspective of a dad. He gives details about what it felt like to be a Dad in the NICU, trying to support his wife and his babies. We talk about how the NICU experience doesn’t end when your family leaves the NICU, and how the processing of your NICU journey really starts after your baby comes home. It was fascinating to chat a bit about how the health care system in the United Kingdom is different than the United States, which impacts stress levels on parents. And he talks about his system of taking photos and jotting down notes as a way to remember his NICU journey.
